We are proud and excited to announce that Cora Johnson recently joined PCC as an Executive Project Manager. This fall, Cora accepting an early retirement offer from the City of Los Angeles, having worked for the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) for more than 30 years in various positions. She is a problem solver with extensive Building and Zoning Code knowledge and fluent in the building permitting process.
Cora has already started helping clients to review preliminary plans, interpret Building Code questions, and review historic records to help interpret legal status of additions to existing buildings.
Prior to coming to PCC, Cora was the manager of the West LA Development Services Center as well as the chief of LADBS’ main Plan Check counter operations in downtown LA. Cora served as the Board Secretary of the Board of Building and Safety Commissioners for 10 years where she developed professional relationships with other City Department heads, City Council members, City Attorneys, Code Enforcement Managers, and members of the Mayor’s team. She started her career as a plan-checker but also spent her earlier years as a Case Manager, where she conducted feasibility studies and facilitated pre-development meetings to assist developers with identifying requirements and potential roadblocks pursuant to obtaining their building permits.
Cora has a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer and an International Code Council (ICC) Certified Plans examiner. Cora has two young adult sons, is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Foster Children.
