Mayor Bass marked the 100-day anniversary of the Palisades Fire to call on the City Council to waive permitting fees for eligible rebuilds and to instruct LADBS to create a pilot program that would allow for self-certification on some eligible rebuilds.
Bass proposed waving the plan-check and permit fees for Palisades Fire projects during her State of the City speech Monday. The Mayor doesn’t have the authority to unilaterally waive the fees; instead, she urged the City Council to pass an ordinance that would waive the fees.
“I call on the Council to pass an ordinance to waive all plan check and permit fees so that Angelenos can get home,” Bass said.
It’s unclear whether the fees would be waived for only eligible rebuilds or for all property owners impacted by the recent wildfires within the city of Los Angeles. Also unclear is when the fees would start being waived, presuming the Council agrees with the Mayor and passes such an ordinance.
Mayor Bass also announced at her State of the City speech the issuance of Emergency Order No. 6, in which she instructed LADBS to create a self-certification pilot program which would allow some fire rebuild projects to skip LADBS permitting.
All applicable reviews and approvals by City departments other than LADBS will continue to be required, she announced.
The implementation guidelines for the self-certification program are to be issued by LADBS within the next 30 working days, she announced.
